With diarrhea are generally associated watery and mushy stools from the intestines. This is a common condition and it’s not related to a serious illness. Each of us has suffered once or more times from it. Diarrhea may last from one to five days. Some people complain of diarrhea resulting from irritable bowel or chronic diseases of the colon. It is divided into an osmotic, secretory, and exudative.
Osmotic diarrhea – something in the bowel is drawing water from the body.
Secretory diarrhea - many kinds of infections and medications can cause it. It occurs when water isreleased in the intestines by the body.
Exudative diarrhea - it is associated with presence of blood and pus in the stool. This occurs with inflammatory bowel disease as Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
What causes diarrhea?
Most often it is a virus that affects bowels. The infection can last 1-2 days and this condition is known as "intestinal flu" or "stomach flu".
Other causes of diarrhea:
- infection caused bybacteria or other organisms
- food, destroying the digestive system
- allergy to a certain food
- drugs and radiotherapy
- bowel disease (colitis)
- Graves' disease or certain cancers
- alcohol abuse
- diabetes
- operation
- irritable bowel syndrome, followed by constipation
Diarrhea – types and symptoms
They may be divided into uncomplicated diarrheasymptoms:
- bloating and cramps
- thin stools or watery stools
- nausea and vomiting
Some of the above symptoms are repeated incomplicated diarrhea:
- blood, mucus and undigested food in stool
- weight loss
- fever

Apple vinegar
Take one teaspoon of apple vinegar and a teaspoon of honey mixed in a glass of water to stop the diarrhea.
Lemon juice
Take 1-2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice before meals.
Carrot soup
Carrot soup can help you to combat dehydration. It containssodium, potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, sulfur and pectin.
Preparation:
Put 500 gr. grated carrots placed in 150ml. of water until become soft.
Then strain the flesh part of the carrots and add more boiling water until all the consistence become 1 liter.You can add a little salt. Every 30 minutes you should consume 100-200 ml of this soup.
Pomegranate
It has excellent astringent properties. Every half an hour the patient can drink about 50 ml. pomegranate juice.
Garlic
A great home remedy. Chew 1 clove of raw garlic to kill the infection.
Orange juice
Half a cup of juice, mix with a tablespoon of sugar, pinch of salt and add 2 cups of water. Drink every 2 hours of this mixture.
Potato soup
Eat a hot cup every 2-3 hours.
Honey
Dissolve 4 spoons of honey in 250 ml of water. This is a very good way to fight the bacteria causing diarrhea.
Infants also can use this recipe, but in smaller proportions. Diabetics should be careful.
Rice water
Boil one cup of rice with 3 cups of water for about 15 minutes. Then cool it and drink a few tablespoons in every hour. Babies can also use it mixed with a little sugar and milk.
Green tea
Green tea is rich in tannins, which have astringent properties and helps to stop the diarrhea.
Can diarrhea harm your health?
Since duringdiarrhea, body loses a lot of water and nutrients, this can really harm your health. If you go to the toilet more than three times a day and your stools are watery, if you do not drink enough fluids, then your body can become dehydrated. This in turn can lead to serious complications. If you have the followingsymptoms, visit your doctor immediately:
- dark and a small amount of urine
- rapid heartbeat
- headache, dry skin
- irritability and confusion
Signs of dehydration (in young children)
- sunken eyes, dry throat and tongue
- running eyes
- fewer wet diapers
- irritability and apathy
- faded skin
